The friend who sits in the waiting room with you, bored out of their mind, is showing up in the least glamorous way possible.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Support is usually imagined as the dramatic version, the right words at the right moment. Most of it is far duller: somebody sitting in an uncomfortable chair for three hours with nothing to do, adding nothing except the fact that you are not alone in the building. There is no way to make that impressive. That is precisely what makes it real.
Be that person for someone this week if the chance comes, and go without needing a role. Bring nothing, say little, stay. And if someone has done it for you, tell them you know what it cost, because they almost certainly think they did nothing.
Which friend has given you their time with nothing in return?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
