Roots and wings are not enemies; healthy roots can survive watching something fly.

The idea that attachment and independence compete makes people either cling or cut off. Secure roots do the opposite: they are what makes leaving possible, because there is somewhere to return to and someone whose regard does not depend on staying nearby. What cannot survive someone flying was never quite the stable thing it claimed to be.

If someone you love is going further than you would choose, look at what you actually want for them. Keeping the connection open is what makes the distance bearable for both of you.
