Learning something new is hard. Unlearning what you’ve done for years is harder. Be patient with the second one.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Building something new has clear steps and visible progress. Removing something worn in has neither, because the old pattern runs before you have decided anything and you often only notice after it has already happened. That lag makes unlearning feel like failure when it is actually just how automatic behaviour comes apart.

Give the second job a much longer timeline than the first, and count noticing as progress. Caught it afterwards, then during, then just before. Each of those is a real step, and the last one takes the longest to arrive.
