If your rules only apply to other people, they’re not rules. They’re weapons.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

A standard applied selectively is not a standard, it is a stick you only swing outward. The tell is that it appears when somebody else breaks it and vanishes when you do. People spot this faster than you would guess, and they quietly adjust how seriously they take anything you say. Consistency is what turns a stated value into a real one.

Take a rule you enforce on other people and go looking for your own most recent breach of it. Say something out loud about that breach. Either raise your behavior or drop the rule, but stop running both at once.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where do you enforce on others what you skip yourself?
