Two people arguing usually want the same thing by different roads. Find the destination first.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Disagreements about method get mistaken for disagreements about goals. You are both trying to get the group somewhere decent, but you are each defending your route, and the longer it goes the more the route feels like the point. Once the shared destination is named out loud, the argument shrinks to a question of logistics.

In your next standoff, stop and ask what the other person is trying to protect. Say what you are trying to protect too. If those two answers turn out to match, the rest is picking a road.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

In your last argument, what did you both actually want?
