Calming down an angry customer without losing your cool is leadership training with a nametag.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Handling someone else’s anger without absorbing it is a genuinely difficult skill, and a counter is one of the few places you get to practice it several times a day. What you learn there transfers everywhere: staying level when the other person is not, separating the complaint from the tone it arrives in, fixing what can be fixed and saying plainly what cannot.
During your next hard interaction, keep your voice a notch below theirs and name the problem back to them before offering anything. Afterwards, spend thirty seconds on what worked. You are building something that stays useful long after the job ends.
Who has shouted at you while you stayed steady?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
