Copy a great leader’s habits, not their haircut. The style was never the secret.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Imitation tends to grab whatever is easiest to see, which is almost never the part doing the work. The surface is available immediately and costs nothing; the habits underneath are slow, unglamorous, and mostly invisible from outside. Copying the visible layer produces a convincing impression of someone effective without any of the effect.

Take a person you admire and work out what they actually do on an ordinary Wednesday. Ask them if you can. Then copy one of those practices for a month and leave the aesthetics alone.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which of your role models do you copy only superficially?
