If the plan isn’t working for your people, change the plan before you blame the people.

LEADERSHIP
When results are poor, the cheapest explanation is that everyone needs to try harder, and it is usually wrong. Effort is rarely the variable; the design of the thing is. A plan that requires people to be exceptional every day in order to function is a badly built plan, not a group of disappointing individuals.
Look at whether the plan itself makes the right action easy before your next round of pushing. Ask the people doing it what gets in the way, and believe the answer. Change one structural thing and see whether the effort problem quietly disappears.
