Sometimes the smartest leadership move is letting the team believe the idea was theirs. Results matter more than credit.
CREATIVITY
CREATIVITY
An idea somebody arrives at themselves gets defended; an idea handed to them gets complied with. If what you want is for the thing to actually happen, the route often runs through asking questions until someone else says the sentence you were going to say. You lose the moment of recognition and gain a group that owns the plan.
Try leading with a question next time rather than a conclusion. Lay out the constraints honestly and let people arrive at the answer you suspect is coming. If they get somewhere better, that was worth more than being right out loud.
When did you need credit more than you needed the result?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
