Every new language comes with a free side of embarrassment. Eat it. It’s part of the meal.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Sounding foolish is not a side effect of learning a language, it is the medium you learn it in. Every sentence you attempt early on is wrong in some way, and being corrected in public is the standard price of admission. People who refuse to pay it stay at the level where nothing can go wrong, which is also the level where nothing happens.

Aim to make mistakes out loud rather than to avoid them. Speak before you feel ready, with someone patient if you can find one. The embarrassment fades much faster than the vocabulary does.
