CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Competence brings standards with it, and standards are the thing that quietly removes the pleasure. When you were bad, every attempt was interesting because anything might happen; once you know what good looks like, each attempt gets measured, and measurement turns play into assessment. That is the usual reason people abandon things they are better at than ever.

Keep one part of the activity deliberately unjudged. Mess around without recording the result, or try a style you are bad at. Skill is worth having, and so is the version of the thing where nothing is being scored.
