REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Every era believes it is the final one, and the feeling is produced by proximity rather than by evidence. What reaches you each day is selected for alarm, which is a reasonable way to gather attention and a terrible way to estimate how bad things are. History is full of people who were certain it was over and were living ordinary lives again within a decade.
Read something about a period other than your own, slowly. Notice both how bad it got and that it continued. Perspective of that kind does not make current problems fake; it just restores their actual size.
