Present difficulty becomes past narrative, and the narrative is shaped by how you behaved inside it rather than by what happened to you. You do not control the events; you do control the part where you were decent, or honest, or kept going, and that is the part that ends up in the telling. Knowing this while it is still happening is a strange kind of advantage.

Ask how you want to describe this period later, then behave like the person in that version. Not heroically, just decently. The story is being written right now, and you are the only one with a pen.
