You don’t have to keep answering to a nickname somebody gave you at nine.

Names given in childhood stick long past their accuracy, because everyone around you keeps using them and correcting it feels like making a fuss over nothing. It is not nothing. A label repeated daily shapes what people expect of you and eventually what you expect of yourself. Whoever came up with it was also nine at the time.
Say once, plainly and without a speech, what you would rather be called. Most people adjust within a week. Anyone still going after that is telling you something about themselves rather than about you.
What old name or label are you still answering to?
