Being coachable is its own talent. The kid who says “show me again” passes the kid who says “I know.”

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Taking instruction well is a skill that compounds, and it is rarer than raw ability. Someone who can hear a correction without defending themselves collects a hundred small improvements a season, while the person protecting their competence collects none and finishes where they started. This is not humility for its own sake. It is the only mechanism by which being coached does anything at all.

Answer the next correction with a question rather than an explanation, and ask them to show you once more. Notice how much more people offer when no argument is waiting for them.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you last ask someone to show you again?
