Some goals are a slow cooker. Set it, check it, don’t open the lid every five minutes.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Every check costs something. Opening the lid lets the heat out, and the equivalent in your own projects is the momentum you lose by stopping to evaluate. Frequent measurement feels like care and mostly functions as interruption, especially with things whose progress is not visible at short intervals.
Decide in advance how often you will look, and make the interval longer than is comfortable. Weekly instead of hourly, monthly instead of weekly. Between checks, do the work and leave it alone. The urge to look is almost always about reassurance rather than information.
Could you leave a goal alone for a month?
