Training wheels come off when you’re ready, not when the neighbor kid’s did.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Readiness is an internal state and it has no relationship to anyone else’s schedule. Using someone else’s timing as your measure produces two bad outcomes, either rushing into something you cannot yet hold, or feeling ashamed of a pace that was correct for you. The comparison adds no information about what you can actually do.

Ask what would tell you that you are ready for the thing in front of you, in terms of your own capacity. Use that as the test instead of the calendar or the people nearby. Move when the answer is yes.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Are you rushing readiness to keep up with someone else?
