If your peace depends on everyone behaving, you don’t have peace. You have a hostage situation.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Calm that requires everybody else to cooperate is not calm, it is a condition on loan. People will be rude, unreliable, and inconsiderate at intervals, and if your state depends on that not happening, you have handed the controls to whoever is having the worst day nearby. Steadiness has to rest on something you hold yourself.

Work out what your calm currently rests on and how much of it sits outside you. Build one part that nobody else can touch, whether that is sleep, movement, or time alone. Then other people’s behaviour becomes weather rather than a verdict.
