The innocent should not become collateral damage in somebody else’s redemption story.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Someone rebuilding their life deserves support, and that support should not be paid for by the people they harmed. It happens quietly all the time: the person who caused damage is welcomed back into the room while the one who was damaged is asked to be gracious, to move on, to not make things difficult. Redemption is real and it does not entitle anyone to a second helping from the same source.

When you are helping someone start again, ask who is being asked to absorb the cost. If it is the person they hurt, find another way. Support that requires the wronged party to keep giving is not generosity, only a transfer.
