If you only google things to win the argument, you’re not researching. You’re shopping for backup.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

There is a difference between looking for what is true and looking for what supports you, and both feel like investigation. When the conclusion is fixed before the search starts, every source becomes either ammunition or something to skip, and you finish more confident and no better informed. The internet will supply support for nearly anything, which is exactly why this works so well.

Next time you go looking, search for the strongest case against your position first. If you cannot state it fairly, you do not understand the argument yet. That is worth knowing before you spend an evening defending it.
