You spend childhood wanting independence and adulthood discovering how many responsibilities were hiding inside it.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Independence looks from the outside like the removal of constraints. From the inside it turns out to be the acquisition of obligations: the bills, the maintenance, the decisions nobody else will make, the fact that if you do not do it, it does not happen. The freedom is real, and it arrived attached to everything that makes it possible.
If you are feeling the weight of it, notice how much of what you carry is actually chosen, and whether anything on the list could be handed back, shared, or simply dropped. Some of it is the price of autonomy. Some of it you took on without ever deciding to, and that portion is worth reviewing.
What did independence cost you that you never anticipated?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
