Do you want the car, or do you want people to see you in the car? Only one of those is about you.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Two wants can sit inside the same object and they point in opposite directions. One of them is about the thing: how it drives, how it feels, whether you would enjoy it with nobody around. The other is about the audience, and that one never arrives, because there is always another person who has not seen it yet.
Test any big purchase by imagining it invisible to everyone you know. If you still want it, the want is yours. If the interest drains out of it, you have learned what you were actually buying and can stop paying for it.
Which thing you want would you still want unseen?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
