If your worth only shows up when there’s a crowd, it’s not worth. It’s rent you owe the audience.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Worth that only exists while somebody is watching is not stable ground. It has to be re-earned at every gathering, and the moment attention moves on the whole thing drains out, which is why applause never lasts as long as it should. What gets built that way is a debt rather than a foundation.

Spend some time this week doing something you are good at with nobody present. Notice the part of you that wants to mention it afterward, and let that pass. The aim is not to refuse praise, only to stop needing it for the thing to count.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Does your sense of worth survive an evening with no audience?
