Humble people are hard to read. That’s the real advantage nobody mentions.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
People who do not broadcast their opinion of themselves are difficult to size up, and being difficult to size up is its own protection. Others cannot flatter you accurately, cannot aim at what you are proud of, and cannot tell whether you are a threat. What stays unsaid stays unusable.
You do not have to perform modesty to get this. Simply stop volunteering your own ranking of yourself, upward or downward, and let people work it out from what you do. Notice how much more you hear when you are not busy being impressive.
How much of yourself do you give away in first meetings?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
