REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Written words have an editing stage built into them and spoken ones do not. In a conversation, whatever arrives in your mouth is out before any review, and it lands carrying the tone you happened to have at the time. That is also why the thing said out loud in a bad moment gets remembered so precisely.

When you feel the sharp sentence forming, take the pause instead. Say you need a minute, or say the smaller version, or say nothing at all for now. Silence is recoverable and the sentence is not.
