Time doesn’t actually speed up as you age. You just stop doing new things, so your brain stops saving files.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
A year feels short when very little in it was distinct enough to remember. Novelty is what your memory uses to mark time, so a run of identical days compresses into almost nothing when you look back. Nothing is accelerating; the recording is simply thinner.
Put one unfamiliar thing into an ordinary week. A different route, a place you have not been, a person you rarely see, a skill you are bad at. It does not have to be large to register, and a month with three of those in it will feel twice the length of one without.
What new thing have you tried this month?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
