Good leaders train their replacement before they’re asked to. The team outlives the captain.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being necessary looks like commitment and often works as insurance. A group that cannot function without one person is fragile, and the person at the centre of it has quietly made their own absence a crisis. Training someone up is the opposite instinct, and it takes more confidence than hoarding does.

Find the thing only you know how to do and teach it to one person this month. Let them do it imperfectly while you are still around to help. What you lose in irreplaceability you get back in freedom, and the group gets something sturdier.
