Trust leaves by elevator and comes back by the stairs. One floor at a time.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Damage is fast and repair is slow, and that imbalance is structural rather than unfair. Confidence in a person is built out of many small observations, so one contradicting event can undo a great deal at once. Getting it back means supplying new observations, which takes as long as it takes. No amount of arguing can shorten that.

If you are the one climbing, stop asking whether you are forgiven and simply keep being predictable. If you are the one waiting, let the climb be gradual without pretending you are already at the top.
