When someone introduces you to their contact, they’re loaning you their reputation. Pay it back by showing up well.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

An introduction puts somebody else’s name at risk. When a person connects you to someone they know, they are spending credit built over years, and your behavior becomes part of their record too. That is why being late or vague or careless in a first meeting costs more than it appears to. The favor is larger than it looks from your side.

If someone opens a door for you, reply quickly, turn up on time, and report back afterwards. Thank the person who made the connection, not only the one you met. Then look for a chance to pass one along yourself.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH
