Say “we” when it goes right and “I” when it goes wrong. People will run through walls for that kind of captain.
LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Credit and blame are the two things anyone leading a group can actually hand out. Pushing credit outward and keeping blame in costs you almost nothing real and buys an enormous amount of goodwill, because most people have only seen the opposite. It also makes the group safer, since nobody is braced to be named. The effect lasts long after the particular game is over.
The next time something goes well, name two other people before you mention yourself. When something fails, answer for it without adding notes about who else contributed. Do that consistently and people will follow you into hard things.
Who took the blame last time your group failed?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
