“What could I have done differently?” is a question that quietly outworks every excuse.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
One question turns a bad outcome into information. Asking what you could have done differently keeps your attention on the part you control, which is the only part that will be useful next time, and it does that without requiring anyone to be blamed. Excuses feel better for an hour and teach you nothing. The question still works when most of the fault sat elsewhere.
After the next thing that goes wrong, ask it once and answer honestly, in writing if that helps. Keep the answer small and specific. Then change that one thing and let the rest go.
Where in last week could you have done something differently?
