Deleting the messages doesn’t delete the moment. It just adds a second one.

Removing the record does not remove what happened, and now there are two things in the room instead of one. The first was a mistake, which people forgive fairly often. The second is a decision made calmly afterward, which is much harder to explain, because it shows you understood and chose concealment anyway.

If you are hovering over that button, leave the thing where it is and go deal with the original. Say what happened before anyone has to find it. The version where you bring it up yourself is uncomfortable for an hour. The other one is uncomfortable for much longer.
