Holding it together for everyone else is a skill. Letting one person see you crack is a stronger one.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Composure for other people is a genuine ability, and like most abilities it becomes a habit you cannot easily switch off. The cost is that nobody knows how you actually are, so no help ever reaches you and the strain stays entirely private. Letting one person see the real state of things is harder precisely because it runs against what you are good at. It also stops the strain being invisible.
Choose one person, not everyone, and lower the guard a little with them this week. One honest sentence about how the term is really going is plenty. Keep the composure for the rest of the room.
Who gets to see you when you are not fine?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
