When everything’s on fire, put out the one closest to you first.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Trying to decide which of several emergencies matters most is itself a way of handling none of them. Proximity is a perfectly good tie-breaker when everything is urgent, because the nearest problem is the one you can act on immediately, and acting at all breaks the stall. Perfect prioritising is a luxury available when things are calm. You do not have it right now.

Pick whichever of your overdue things is physically in front of you and do that one. Not the most important, not the one you dread most. Just the nearest, finished, and then look up and choose again.
