On a bad weather day, the runner who adjusts their goal still wins something. The one who doesn’t just suffers.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A target set for good conditions becomes a guarantee of failure once the conditions change, and chasing it anyway turns a hard day into a wasted one. Adjusting is not abandoning the standard, it is applying the standard to the day you actually have. There is nearly always something available to win: position, effort, finishing at all, learning the conditions. Refusing to reset leaves all of it untouched.

Before the next day that goes wrong, decide what the fallback win is. Not a time but a place, or simply completing it well. One minute of that at the start changes what the whole hour is worth.
