The rider who can laugh at a fall usually gets back in the saddle sooner than the one who hides it.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Hiding a fall means managing how it looked, and that management is exactly what keeps you on the ground. Laughing closes the incident immediately, which frees you to do the only thing that matters, which is getting back on. It is not that cheerful people fall less often. They simply spend far less time on the part that comes after the fall.

Next time you mess up in front of people, say something about it first and lightly. Beating everyone to the comment leaves nothing for anybody else to do with it. Then get straight back to the thing, because the speed of that return is what gets remembered.
