Wanting it to be elegant is understandable, and it is also a reliable way to talk yourself out of finishing at all. Done is a category, and done nicely is a preference.
Finish the thing in front of you in whatever state it is in. The essay that is worse than you wanted, the race you are walking part of, the shift you are dragging through. Hand it in, then judge it afterwards.
