Every adult you admire has a year they don’t talk about. You’re allowed one too.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
The people who look composed have edited histories rather than clean ones. Everybody arrives at adulthood with a period they do not bring up: a year of failing, of coming apart, of behaving in ways they would rather not revisit. You never see those years because nobody puts them in the summary, which makes your own bad stretch look uniquely disqualifying. It is not even unusual.
Ask an adult you respect about their worst year and watch how much there turns out to be. Most will tell you if you ask properly. It is also permission to stop treating your own bad patch as the thing that sets you apart.
Which year of yours do you not talk about?
