Your art got rejected from the show. Make the next piece anyway. Shows end. Portfolios keep growing.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A show is an event with a date on it and a small number of places, decided by a few people’s taste on a particular afternoon. A body of work is cumulative and belongs to you. Rejection removes one opportunity and takes nothing out of the folder, which keeps getting thicker whatever anybody decides about any single piece. The work outlasts the occasions it gets submitted to.

Start the next piece this week, before the disappointment hardens into a reason not to. Do not make it a reply to the rejection either, since work made in argument with somebody tends to be worse.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you make next if nobody selected it?
