A tough loss gets shorter every time you replay it with a lesson instead of with shame.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Replaying a loss does one of two very different jobs, depending on what you are looking for. Hunting for a lesson gives the memory somewhere to go, and once you have the lesson the replay stops being necessary. Hunting for proof that you are not good enough has no end point, which is why some losses stay vivid for years.

Think through the last bad result once, with a pen, looking only for things you would do differently. Write two of them down and close it. If you notice yourself going back without the pen, that is the other version, and it is worth stopping there.
