Nightmare shifts turn into legendary stories, but only for the coworker who stayed until close.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The good stories belong to whoever was there at the end. Anybody who leaves in the middle of a disaster gets the version secondhand and misses the part where it turned around, which is the part everyone repeats for years afterwards. Staying is also how the people on that shift end up permanently on your side.

When a shift goes badly wrong, stay to the end if you safely can, and notice who else does. Those are the people worth covering for later. Say something to them about it afterwards, because a shared bad night turns coworkers into friends faster than anything else.
