Pressure makes some people louder and some people sharper. Aim for sharper.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pressure amplifies whatever you already do, and for most people what they already do is talk. Volume feels like control while it is happening and rarely improves anything, because the extra noise crowds out the one useful thought available. Getting sharper means the opposite: fewer words, a narrower focus, the next action instead of a commentary on the situation.

Watch yourself in the next tense moment and notice which way you go. If it is louder, try cutting what you say in half and giving that attention to looking instead. Pick one short phrase to use on yourself that names the next action and nothing else.
