Evidence becomes clearer when your preferred answer stops supervising it.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
When you want a particular answer, the wanting quietly supervises everything: which sources you consult, how hard you look for problems, when you decide you have looked enough. Nothing dishonest happens at any step, and the process reliably delivers what you were hoping for. The distortion happens through attention rather than through reasoning.
Notice what you would prefer to be true before you start looking, and say it plainly. Then deliberately spend equal effort on the case against it. Simply naming the preference in advance reduces its influence more than any amount of resolving to be objective.
