After a loss, the locker room gets quiet. Be the one who says the first useful thing, not the first angry one.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Silence after a defeat is unstable, and whatever gets said first tends to set the tone for everybody. Anger is the easiest thing to reach for and it spreads fastest, usually landing on whoever made the most visible mistake. Something useful takes a few seconds longer to find. It is also the thing people will remember about you for the rest of the season.
Decide in advance what your first sentence will be, so you are not inventing it with adrenaline in your system. Something plain works: naming one thing that went well, or asking what the plan is for Tuesday. Then let somebody else talk.
What useful thing could you say first when the room goes quiet?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
