Turnout gear is heavy on purpose. Some protection only works because you carry its weight.

Anything that genuinely shields you has mass, and the weight is not a flaw in the design. The weight is the protection. The same trade shows up a long way from any fire: money you will not spend, a curfew, a rule you set for yourself, a friend who tells you the truth. All of them are inconvenient in exactly the way that makes them work.

Look at the rule you find most annoying about your own life and ask what it protects. If the answer is nothing, drop it. If the answer is something real, stop resenting the weight, because setting it down means carrying the risk instead.
