Want to lead? Get comfortable saying “that was my call, and it was wrong.”

Owning a bad decision out loud is the fastest way to make a group trust you, and it is rare because it feels like handing over a weapon. The opposite tends to happen. Everyone already knew whose call it was, and the only question was whether you would say so. Naming your own mistakes makes it safe for everyone else to name theirs, which is how problems arrive early instead of late.
Practice on something small this week. When you get something wrong at work or in a group chat, say plainly that it was yours and what you will do next. Skip the part about why it was reasonable.
Which wrong call of yours have you never claimed out loud?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
