Surviving a bad decision does not make the decision good.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Survival is not endorsement. You can walk away intact from something that was genuinely dangerous, and the intactness proves only that the danger did not resolve against you this time. The risk was real while you were inside it, and it stays real for the next person who tries the same thing.

Think of a close call you have started telling as a funny story. Ask what would have had to go slightly differently for it to end badly, and how much of that was in your hands. Let the answer inform whether you would do it again.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which close call have you rewritten as a good idea?
