Weak judgment is expensive, but the bill can be deferred for years. While conditions are favourable, sloppy thinking and careless decisions get absorbed by circumstance, and everyone including you reads the results as competence. The reckoning comes when conditions turn, and then it comes all at once, for choices made long ago.

Ask what in your life is currently working because of the environment rather than because of the design. A job market, a rising market, one generous person. Then ask what you would change if that support quietly went away next year.
