Learn to celebrate other people’s wins out loud. It doesn’t take anything away from yours.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Underneath the reluctance sits an assumption that recognition is a fixed quantity, so praising somebody else must spend some of yours. It does not work that way. Saying it out loud tends to raise your standing rather than lower it, because people who name other people’s good work read as secure, and the silence costs you more than the sentence ever would. Withheld praise gets noticed too.

So do it in public, specifically, this week. In the group chat, in front of the coach, in front of the manager, say what somebody did well and use their name. It takes ten seconds and nobody forgets who said it.
