Instead of picking a job title at fifteen, pick a problem you’d enjoy fixing for years. Titles change. Problems wait.

Job titles are temporary packaging, and half the ones that will exist when you are thirty have not been invented yet. A problem is more durable: people being lonely, machines breaking, food going to waste, kids not able to read. Attach yourself to a problem and the roles rearrange themselves around you. Attach yourself to a title and a reorganisation can make you obsolete.
Write down three problems you find genuinely annoying that nothing seems to fix. Keep the list a month and see which one you keep returning to. Then find somebody who works on it and ask what their ordinary day looks like.
Which problem would you happily keep working on for a decade?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
